What makes a community, and an organization, great are the individuals who  are a part of that community.. So often these individuals make contributions that are never seen by the larger community.  One of these individuals is Barb Klinger.

Barb has lived in Southeast Portland almost all of her life.  She is part of the Powellhurst Gilbert Neighborhood Association and helps with its Neighborhood Night Out each year.  Barb is also part of the East Portland Rovers, a group of volunteers who support multiple East Portland Neighborhood Events.   An active member of her church, she steps up to help others in the congregation.

DMA is fortunate that Barb has been a volunteer since Fall 2012. She helps with the little things that most people don’t like to do such as stuffing envelopes  making phone calls or signing guests in at events.  Barb is an integral part of Festival of Nations’ fundraising; in the past, she organized sponsor letters, and this year she is setting up appointments with   prospective sponsors.  These things take time and Barb gladly devotes her time to them..  You can expect Barb will continue to greet you at DMA events. Last year she was a greeter at the Festival of Nations and Take Pride In Your Neighborhood Clean-ups.  Why does she volunteer with DMA? “I like to meet people and talk with them about the neighborhood and community,” she says.  “I have lived in Southeast Portland nearly all of my life and have watched the changes over the years.  But even with the changes community is always there.”

She adds, “I do want to commend DMA for all they have done with this area and am looking forward to what else they have to offer as I see this as only the beginning of great and new changes.”  With help from Barb and all of DMA’s volunteers there are many great changes to come.  Thank you Barb.
