Construction activities begin on Outer Powell

Early construction activities for the Outer Powell Transportation Safety Project have begun. To prepare for roadway construction along SE Powell Boulevard from SE 122nd to SE 136th Avenues, overhead and underground utilities are moving. This work involves moving power, communications, water and gas lines. People will see large trucks, construction equipment and crews working during the day and night. People can expect intermittent traffic delays, noise, and brief power outages. Utility service companies will perform these activities through spring 2019. Following this work, roadway construction for new safety improvements can begin and will last through 2020.

Don’t be caught off guard! Through spring 2019 people can expect:

· Intermittent construction may cause traffic delays. Flaggers will be in place to direct traffic when needed.
Both daytime and nighttime work. Nighttime work may require bright lights and safety equipment.
· Construction noise.  Utility contractors will work to minimize noise as much as possible, but some unavoidable noise will occur during daytime and nighttime hours. A 24-hour noise hotline is available at (503) 294-1321.
· Some power outages. Utility work may require short-term power outages. Utility providers will notify customers ahead of time for these events.
·  No on-street parking. On-street parking will not be permitted.
·  Temporary sidewalk and bike lane detours. Portions of the sidewalk and bike lanes may be temporarily flagged or redirected to protect people from construction activities. Signage will be in place.
