Two Serious Accidents Prompt Safety Alert

After 2 serious accidents on Division as well as SE 122^nd this past week, the message is clear ~ Slow Down, Be Alert, Be Seen.  DMA urges everyone to remind your staff,  clients or customers to be careful out there: Slow down when driving; be alert and focused while driving, walking or cycling; and make certain you see and are seen.
 
DMA hopes for the recovery of the seriously injured pedestrian, hit while trying to cross Division at 122^nd, as well as the cyclist struck by a car at the 2300 block of SE 122^nd.
 
Here are a few tips and reminders offered by Sharon White of PBOT:
 

• Driving slower results in fewer fatal and serious injuries if there is a crash.  Slower speeds allow drivers more time to observe what is in front, behind and beside them and time for them to respond if there is an emergency or sudden change in roadway behavior.
• Be alert and focus on your driving, walking or cycling.  Put away your cell phones until you have pulled over or crossed the street.  Whatever mode of transportation you are using, be mindful of where you are on the road in relation to others and remain alert.

See and be seen.  When driving, continually scan your environment, watching for unusual or unplanned behaviors so you can be ready to respond. If you're walking or cycling, make sure drivers are away of you in the crossing before you cross.
