2018 - DMA's TRANSITION YEAR
 

     DMA has worked diligently the past 5 years to establish a community office where businesses and community members can access resources available in this area and receive guidance while working through those support systems.  
     This past year alone, DMA staff, volunteers and partners have provided direct support to over 700 community members and 100 businesses.  DMA also partners with some of the area's best nonprofit organizations to make this happen.  SE Works Workforce Development and Portland State University's Business Outreach Programs have provided direct support to businesses and community members alike.  
     For the past 5 years, I have been at the helm, guiding the DMA ship through choppy waters.  At times the waters were rough, and I did my best to keep DMA's ship on course.  
     Over time, the stress of the job has taken its toll.  Many of you recall, I suffered a heart attack in August 2016, which has caused me to take a step back and re-evaluate what is important in life.  The result of that evaluation is that I have decided to step away from DMA's leadership position.  
     DMA is ready for a new director who will elevate the organization to new heights. 
     I am not going far; in fact, I will be providing business outreach support for the Division Transit Project in East Portland, so I will be all over Division Street!!
     Also, if anyone has ever wanted to help DMA, NOW IS THE TIME!!!  DMA needs committee and board members, volunteers and community support more than ever!!!  Please feel free to respond to this email, and someone will be in touch. 
     I look forward to seeing you all in 2018.  Remember the Festival of Nations is just over 6 months away on Sunday, July 15, 2018 in the Duke's American Bar & Grill parking lot.  See you all then if not before!!!
