VIRTUAL COMMUNITY DIALOGUE ON DISPLACEMENT, RELOCATION, & PLACEMAKING
Division Midway Alliance conducted a two-day community dialogue on "Displacement, Relocation and Placemaking" on October 16 and October 19. On the first day, guest speakers - Leslie Lum and Andrea Pastor from the Bureau of Planning and Sustainability, Jamila Dozier from Portland Housing Bureau and JR Lilly from East Portland Action Plan (EPAP) presented information about current works on the issue
Similarly, on the second day, Hope Radford from Mercy Corps and Candance Kita from APANO shared about placemaking and investment opportunities. We had 16 participants. Participants shared their vision of placemaking for the Midway-Division district.
Some of the highlights of ideas shared from 4 small group discussions are:
1. More Culturally Specific Businesses
2. Art and Mural in the district representing the culture of diverse communities in East Portland
3. A community space
4. Affordable housing
5. Public spaces such as parks, green spaces
Feedback from Community Members:
" I look forward to participating in another session to see how things have changed in the future. Thank you for holding the wonderful dialogues." - Community member 1
"It was great to see so many professionals working hard behind the scenes for East Portlanders!" - Community member 2
"I really enjoyed the community dialogue and appreciated how diverse the attendees were. The attendees ranged from professionals working with the city or other organizations to leaders in nonprofits and other initiatives, to community members who have first-hand, personal experience with displacement. This diversity of voices allowed for an insightful discussion about placemaking in the East Portland community and the diverse meanings that placemaking has for all of us. I look forward to continuing to work with DMA and other participating organizations and individuals to make our vision for East Portland placemaking happen." - H.R.

PBOT'S GOALS FOR SAFER STREETS
In a recent survey conducted by PBOT, nine out of 10 Portlanders cited these three issues as their top priorities.
Given these concerns, we think you will be pleased with Moving to Our Future, the strategic plan that will guide our work at the Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) for the next three years. It’s built around three core goals:
- SAFETY: Make Portland streets safe for everyone
- MOVING PEOPLE AND GOODS: Provide transportation options for a growing city
- ASSET MANAGEMENT: Deliver smart investments to maintain our transportation system
